High Mountain Tempel - modern California mysticism

I've been trying to get High Mountain Tempel on one of my shows for a while now. Their music is dark and ritualistic. Sublime yet frightening. High Mountain Tempel were the perfect match for June Gloom. Finally we were able to make it happen and I am very happy to announce their performance for this year's event.

High Mountain Tempel hold the key to the door between modern and primitive dimensions. Their music is like the shaman, withered from the ages, who prepares his soul for transformation via drone electronics and psychoactive consiousness.

Please describe a typical HMT performance. What will you be doing for June Gloom??

For June Gloom we'll be doing a multimedia presentation. We're hoping to create an initiation ritual that includes multiple senses, working from within to expand an aura that incorporates everyone in the room into participants. We're looking at creating a transformative experiential evening that includes multiple facets of art, mythology and humanity.

High Mountain Tempel mixes the past with the future. Ancient rituals with today's music technology. Can you please describe your influences regarding esoteric or occult themes if any??

The whole project is based on exploring modern California mysticism. We've worked with people who explore the themes of ritual and the occult in England and in the Source Family of California and Hawaii to help guide the project into realms of the newly possible. It's not traditional music but it is built around ancient questions and seeking.

A review of A Screaming Comes Across The Sky says it is the soundtrack to your next Apocalypse. How accurate is this statement??

We hope to herald the end of music that has previously bored you into pain. As music craftsmen we've dealt in the traditional sound patterns of the recent past and are looking at creating the birth of the magic Parsons babe with new paradigms and mind patterns. Hopefully we deal mostly with a new beginning after the crashing of the old realia.

How did you become associated with Acid Mothers Temple??

I've been working, recording, touring and drinking with AMT since a show on my birthday in the summer of 98. Makoto Kawabata played a show with another of my bands as Mainliner and he really felt like he heard something that night. He remixed and released an album I was working on on his Acid Mothers temple label. Since then I've done four Japanese tours with Makoto and Hiroshi sitting in with us, we've done a 2 cd collaboration album, rereleased old stuff etc etc. You can check out some of it at lotushouserecords.com and at acidmothers.com

We've become close friends and will tour again in the Japan in the Summer of 2012 as Maquiladora and as Buzz or Howl.

What merch will you have for sale that night??

We'll have all four of our handcrafted HMT cd's for sale. My favorite is our newest one which is a split w/ Earthling Society from the UK. The songs include Charles Curtis on cello and Isis Aquarian on voice. It's really our best work.
